Yo! Wassup? Alles klar? ¿Qué tal? hehe.... welcome to my BLOG!
Berlin
Hmm.. this is the third time I'm writing this, stupid hotmail system keeps deleting my mail. Totally tired now, just returned from Berlin. Disappointed as well, received a piece of news just as I came back.
The train journey to Berlin took 4 hours, at 250 km/h with the ICE(Inter-City Express). At first glance fromt he train, Berlin was ugly, but as soon as we entered the city, it was totally maginificent. The architecture here in Berlin is so magnificent. It's so amazing how the Germans rebuilt the country after the war. Women had to work in the beginning as the men were in PoW camps or dead. There are 106 embassies in Berlin, I saw the Malaysian embassy yesterday, but I did not have anough time ot take out my camera. 500 theatres here in germany. Also saw a woman in another tour bus, she smiled when she saw, me, no idea who she was. Didn't get a good look.
The trip was very relaxing, though a bit tightly scheduled. Mainly political though. Now I know so much more about the german political system and history. germany is one of the only industrialized counrty to have a seperated ministry for global cooperation for development. The Jewish museum is so interesting, it tells the story of jews in Germany, their culture and everything. The Wannsee Conference house exhibits the treatment the Jews went through in WWII.Really sad. but the other side of the war is that german PoWs were tortured in the camps.
Spent quite a lot of money in Berlin, eventhough the trip was mainly paid for by the German Federal Press Office. Watched a revue yesterday at the Friedrichstadtpalast, just like those you see in movies from Las Vegas, only that it has arobats and gymnasts etc. An experience of a lifetime. There was about 1800 people there that night. This revue theatres is one of the last remaining large revue theatres in Europe. Most had closed down becauce of financial problems. we stayed at a four star hotel in East Berlin. Form the outside,it looks bad, but from the inside, it was very luxurious. The bus we toured in was a doubel decker, forgot to take a photo though. Got some souvenirs from Berlin.
German politics is transparent, one can acquire the parliamentary sitting protocols. On thursday night, the family and I went for a tour through the city by foot. Wne tto Checkpoint Charlie, unfortunately, it was coverd with plastic. We were just about to go when I saw some wall pieces on the ground nearby. Turns out to be part of the Berlin Wall, took some pieces. Normally this would be illegal, but according to my host mom, it is rubbish as the significant parts have been taken away. So now I have pieces of the wall without spending money and I can be sure it is original.
The Brandenburg Gate is so beautiful at night. Went through a nuclear shelter this morning. Really bad condition to live in when you really have to live inside it. The story of Berlin is very interesting. Meals throughout this trip were delicious. The meal on a ship tour was really good. I really want to spend a few more days in Berlin. Would be interesting to live in Berlin. Forgot to mention that east and west Berlin had different traffic images on the traffic lights(pedestrian).
I think that's all I'm up to writing, lazy..hehe..
